Bucari Iloilo : The Little Baguio

Bucari is an area with mountainous terrain situated in the highlands of Leon and Alimodian, both are municipalities of Iloilo province in Panay island, Philippines. The area spans terrain and mountain ridges that is part of the Central Panay mountain ranges. Leon is a second class municipality of Iloilo province. A town with thriving vegetation and refreshing view of abundantly pine-tree covered mountains. The temperature in the area ranges from 18 to 20 °C (64 to 68 °F) and dipping to 10 °C (50 °F) with the wind factor from December to February.This makes Bucari the summer capital and tagged as “little Baguio of Panay.”
Local farmers grow vegetables such as asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbages, baguio beans, sayote, eggplants, carrots and fruits such strawberries, mangoes and bananas. Today some portion of the area has been made into a mountain resort and in the future, it is being planned that part of the area will be converted into a national park and botanical garden.
HOW TO GET THERE:
From Iloilo City, you can ride a jeepney (2 hours trip) going to Bucari. You can also hire a van or air-conditioned taxis at reasonable rates. From Jaro, Iloilo, ride a jeepney marked with “Leon” going to Leon Town Plaza. From the town plaza, ride a tricycle and ask to be dropped off at jeepney station bound for Bucari. Schedule of trips is every hour starting 7:00am to 2:00pm. From Leon proper, the jeepney will take about 40-45 minutes to reach Bucari.
